
New Zealand is a founding member of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) which has now been in operation for 50 years. To commemorate the anniversary, the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee produced a publication commemorating New Zealand’s contribution to the Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme over the past fifty years. The publication was launched at a reception in the Grand Hall of Parliament buildings in Wellington on the evening of the 4th September. The reception which was hosted by The Speaker of the House of Representatives, The Hon Dr Lockwood Smith, and approximately 170 guests attended. Guests included Commonwealth dignatries, Government officials, Commonwealth Alumni and current Commonwealth Scholars studying in New Zealand. Click here to view photos of the event. Since its inception in 1959, the Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan (CSFP) has grown to be one of the most prestigious international schemes for postgraduate study and professional development in the world. More than 25,000 Commonwealth citizens have held awards - many going on to reach the very highest levels of their profession. So far, over 700 New Zealanders have studied overseas on Commonwealth scholarships. To date New Zealand has hosted 758 Commonwealth scholars on its shores from 48 Commonwealth countries. In New Zealand, the Commonwealth Scholarships Scheme is administered by the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee (NZVCC) and the New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZAID), part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.About the CSFP:
